A New Chapter: Redefining Middle-Revenue Cycle Operations for Today’s Hospitals

I’ve spent my career at the intersection of clinical documentation improvement (CDI), revenue integrity, and operational strategy. After navigating Curation Health’s successful handoff to Reveleer, I was ready to join a healthcare company that would equally challenge and excite me.

New opportunities come with new ways of thinking, when the opportunity presented itself to become CEO of HURC, a leading middle-revenue cycle operations solution that combines healthcare operators and novel technology to drive net patient revenue, I was ready.

In an era of heightened payer scrutiny and margin pressure, the middle-revenue cycle is where financial integrity is either secured or lost; however, HURC is helping hospitals overhaul their entire utilization review function to bridge the gap between providers and payers and safeguard revenue.

The Most Overlooked Lever in Hospital Financial Performance: The Middle Revenue Cycle

The middle-revenue cycle is intricate and represents far more than a single task. It’s where utilization review, CDI, medical coding, charge capture, and payer communication meet while care is being delivered.

When those elements are misaligned or don’t mirror payer requirements, the consequences don’t reveal themselves immediately. Instead, even when registration is clean and collections are strong, they show up in the form of denials, delayed payments, and under-reimbursement.

Hospitals don’t lose revenue because they don’t work hard. They lose it because the middle revenue cycle is fragmented and often lacks the resources to level with playing field with payers to empower providers deliver the care patients need. Now, there is a proven way to protect earned revenue, ensuring care delivered is accurately documented, appropriately coded, and defensibly reimbursed the first time.

Changing the Trajectory of Payer Denials

My mission as CEO of HURC is simple: to change the trajectory of the middle-revenue cycle and save hospitals and health systems millions in the process. HURC’s CUR (centralized utilization review) solution provides a fully integrated technology and expert resource model. It can overcome the limitations of common partial solutions, such as technology-only or outsourced staffing models, to address admission reviews, appeals, and authorizations, that result in fluctuating patient length of stay (LOS), high denial rates from payers, and excessive costs associated with managing these issues. Its customizable model can plug into any hospital system to fit within their workflows, drastically cutting time to onboard and staff training.

CUR not only helps hospitals and health systems maintain control of their revenue, but also empowers them to spend more time caring for patients.

At HURC, we are optimizing existing hospital middle-revenue cycle operations into a proactive and sustainable model.

I couldn’t be more excited to help lead the charge.
